Google announced their Chromebook Pixel last Thursday, a “pricey slab of a device” that runs Google’s Web-centric Chrome operating system. However, the said hardware defies conventional Chromebook wisdom.

Chromebook Pixel: Features and Availability

Google’s Chromebook Pixel features 12.85-inch, 2560 x 1700 touchscreen display. It also boasts 1.8 GHz Intel Core i5 processor, 720-pixel webcam, Intel HD 4000 integrated graphics chipset, 4 GB memory, and 32 GB of solid-state storage. All of these are packed in a 0.64-inch thick anodized aluminum, which weighs 3.35 lbs.

The screen resolution of Chromebook Pixel’s display equates to about 239 pixels per inch. That is slightly greater than the 227 ppi on the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display. Aside from that, the device comes with 1 TB of free cloud storage via Google Drive for three years.

All in all, Google’s Chromebook Pixel looks like a premium piece of hardware that has little resemblance to Chromebook devices. This emphasizes low pricing and bargain-basement components.

Google’s Chromebook Pixel costs $1229. However, buyers could have double its storage and Verizon 4G LTE support for $1449.
