After months of speculations, it was already confirmed that PAX Australia is set to take place next year in Melbourne. It will kick off on July 19 to 21, 2013. This is the first time that the Penny Arcade Exhibit will happen outside the United States.

For the benefit of the readers, PAX started in 2004 as a show or exhibit dedicated for gaming culture and community. The first PAX is a 4,500-person event that took place in Bellevue, Washington. Since then, the show has doubled its size, and it expanded into Boston for PAX East in 2010. The said event drew thousands of attendees during its inaugural year. The events in Seattle and Boston represent the two largest gaming events in North America, and it will go international next year.

Showcasing Games Culture to the Rest of the World

The announcement that PAX will head to Australia was made by PAX President Robert Khoo and Victoria’s Minister for Innovation Louise Asher. As stated by Asher:

It is a great opportunity to showcase games culture in Australia to the rest of the world, and the exposure around the region and the world that Melbourne’s game industry will gain from the event, and the number of international and domestic visitors that will be drawn to Melbourne, cannot be underestimated.

In addition, Khoo explained why Melbourne is a fitting venue for next year’s PAX event.

Melbourne has a long history of supporting the games scene, though showcasing cultural game exhibits to supporting world-renowned game developers. Holding PAX Australia in Melbourne is the perfect fit for our show.

In addition, there were reports that the PAX Australia will also happen in 2014, although it was not yet posted on the event’s official website. Nevertheless, seeing the much-awaited gaming event go international is always exciting.

Connect and Register

After announcing the event last Sunday, PAX Australia also opened its registrations for the event. Those who would like to attend can secure a three-day pass for $115 or a single ticket at $45.

There are no words yet on what will happen on the said event. However, fans can hope that it will be better than before, especially now that it will hit another part of the world.

More details will be released prior to the event, so keep posted for more news. You can follow PAX Australia’s latest updates through its official Facebook or Twitter account.
