Finally! Nintendo of America has released the final box art for Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon. Set to be released in North America next spring, the box cart features Luigi, holding on to the border of the game box nervously with the mansion in the background.

More About Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon

Also known in Japan as Luigi Mansion 2, Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon is developed by Next Level Games and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 3DS. Announced during E3 2011, the game is a sequel to the 2001’s Luigi’s Mansion for the Nintendo GameCube.

The game focuses on the adventures of Luigi, who is sent by Professor E. Gadd through teleportation, to explore at least three haunted mansions. From them, he will capture ghosts using the Poltergust 5000, a specialized vacuum cleaner that can also be used to collect hidden treasures in various rooms.

Gameplay

Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon has the same gameplay as its predecessor. In order to capture a ghost, Luigi must first stun it using a stroboscope. He needs to charge it in order to release an intense burst of light that is similar to flashbang.

Once stunned, the ghost’s hit points will be exposed, letting the player to vacuum and “wrestle” with it. It will then decrease its hit points, and it can be capture once the ghost is weak enough. It was reported that Luigi can fight up to three ghosts simultaneously, although development is in the works to allow the character to fight even more.

Toad will assist Luigi in his adventures and accomplishing various goals, while King Boo will also appear in the game. However, it is unknown what his would be his role in the sequel.

Clearing the room with ghosts give the player keys, which gives access to deeper areas of the mansion. In addition, Shigeru Miyamoto said that Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon will be more puzzle-oriented than the original game. Luigi’s movement can also be controlled using button presses or motion control via the Nintendo 3DS gyroscope and accelerometer.

Game Development

The development for Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon started in late 2010, with game developer and producer Shigeru Miyamoto overseeing the production. He said that he worked on the sequel after using the original game to test the Nintendo 3DS hardware because he “wanted to”.

Following its announcement Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon’s English title was revealed during the Nintendo All-Access during E3 2012.
