Finally! Sony and Major League Baseball have unveiled their candidates for the MLB 13 The Show Cover Showdown. Starting January 7, players will be able to vote for one of the seven eligible baseball stars that will grace the cover of Sony’s new baseball game.

The seven athletes fans can choose from are listed below:

  • Los Angeles Dodgers: Matt Kemp
  • Milwaukee Brewers: Ryan Braun
  • Pittsburgh Pirates: Andrew McCutchen
  • Washington Nationals: Bryce Harper
  • New York Yankees: C.C. Sabathia
  • San Francisco Giants: Buster Posey
  • Detroit Tigers: Miguel Cabrera

Where’s R.A. Dickey and Mike Trout?

Although the baseball stars on Sony and MLB’s list may be eligible, some where a little surprised to see R.A. Dickey and Mike Trout off the list. As posted on the gaming website Game Zone:

After the season both of them had last year, you’d think they’d deserve a spot. After all, Dickey was the N.L. Cy Young winner last year and many attribute the Angels’ success last year to the call up of rookie All-Star Mike Trout who batted over .350 for the majority of the season.

However, some pointed out that Trout didn’t make it on the list because he’s too much of a rookie. Still, many players believe that he deserves to be in the list, and he should have been considered at least. After all, he made a great rookie season.

In the Cover: Rookie vs. MVP and Cabrera vs. Posey

Aside from arguing who should have been in the list, fans were also giving out their opinion on who should grace the cover of MLB 13 The Show. There may be a battle of whose rookie is better, but some players believe that the game’s cover should go to the MVP. With that, the prominent choices are Miguel Cabrera and Buster Posey.

Fans of Miguel Cabrera believes that he should be put on the cover, as he led the AL with 44 home runs, 139 RIBs, and a .330 batting average that earn him a Triple Crown—something that hasn’t been done in years. Not to mention that he was also named as AL’s Most Valuable Player.

On the other hand, there are fans who say that Posey should be on the cover. As one IGN reader stated in the comments:

Carbrera is a great player and almost certainly a better hitter than anyone else in the game, BUT I give the nod to Posey for a) Being a key player on the WS-winning team (and let’s face it, winning the world series in this team-sport is the entire point and goal of playing professional baseball in the first place,…b) winning the NL MVP award, AND the comeback player award, and c) for being a freakin’ amazing catcher, the (imo) hardest position to play in the game.

So for you, who should it be?
