Previously expected to cost $59.99 and $39.99 for PlayStation 3 and PS Vita respectively, it was announced that Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time will now be $39.99 for PS3 and $29.99 for PS Vita. Thus, buyers won’t need to pay full price when the game is released in North America on February 5.
In addition, the game supports Cross Buy. This means that those who will buy the Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time for PS3 will also receive the game’s downloadable PS Vita version for free!
Curious Move from Sony
Although it is big and great news for gamers and fans of Sly Cooper, the price drop did make a few people wondering about the reason behind it. Because of this, Cristian Cardona—Sony Computer Entertainment in America’s associate product marketing manager of software marketing—was prompted to clear the issue.
In relation to this, gaming website PlayStation Lifestyle posted a Q&A segment between the website and Cardona. Note that the questions were edited for cohesion, while the replies were posted as is.
What is the reason for the price cut?
We want to make it a no-brainer purchase!
Is the price drop because of the length of the game? Or is it to get as many new Sly fans as possible?
As many fans as possible. Believe me, it’s not going to be any less of a Sly experience!
Does the $39.99 price tag mean it will have less content?
Nope. That’s your assumption—truth is, there’s PLENTY PLENTY. Price doesn’t always equal quality or content.
$39.99? Does that mean you have low confidence in the sales?
It’s a competitive market right now! We want to make sure this is a purchase you don’t have to think twice about. It’s gonna be a great game and we want to make sure as many people as possible can enjoy it.
Simply put, the price drop was made in order to attract as many potential buyers as possible. Not to mention that the game will retain a quality found on the titles priced at $60. Aside from that, PlayStation Blog shared more information about the Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time.
