Although official details from Activision and Terminal Reality are not yet out, it was reported that online retailer GameStop launched a pre-order package for The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct. The package includes an exclusive DLC called Herd Mode Challenge and a Walker Ear keychain.
Gaming website PlayStation Lifestyle reported to see whether other retailers also carried the same pre-order deal. As it turns out, no else is offering it other than GameStop. However, it is possible that pre-order campaigns with different content from each retailer are in the works.
Herd Mode Challenge DLC and Walker Ear Keychain
The game’s Herd Mode Challenge will allow players to fight endless waves of walkers. According to the DLC’s description, the content is basically a horde mode.
Each wave of undead held off brings with it a new outbreak of hungry biters and new opportunities to rack up an even higher score.
As to whether the DLC will be available to all who will buy the game remains to be seen. Thus, it is also unknown whether gamers will have to pre-order Survival Instinct in order to have the Herd Mode Challenge.
On the other hand, the Walker Ear keychain will ship with the user’s order or through store pick-up. A code with instructions will be emailed or printed on the receipt together with the purchase.

The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct—Details
Developed by Terminal Reality and published by Activision, The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct is based on the television series. It is a prequel to the TV show and is set in the Georgia countryside.
The game’s story revolves around Daryl and Merle Dixon, as they fight their way through the walkers to go to Atlanta. Players will assume the role of Daryl, who can either fight the walkers or stealthily sneak past them. Along the way, they will be able to meet other characters who can either help or damage them.
Aside from that, AMC launched a contest during the first eight episodes of the TV series’ third season. Each week, a winner is given the opportunity to be featured on The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct. Their headshots will be incorporated into a fictional character in the game and will be used in one of the eight “death vignettes.”
The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct will be available starting March 26, 2013.
